Being a woman is never easy – a statement that rings true nevertheless to this very day. Staying single or getting married may not necessarily be a matter of personal choice. Looks and age are perennial causes for anxiety. When things are better left unsaid, three Korean women decide to go entirely physical, telling their stories with mime peppered with side-splitting humour and soulful tears that encapsulate the very nature of life.
As the title suggests, Kaleidoscope is a smorgasbord of nine short comical pieces that together project the varied faces and the charisma of present-day women. Be they single ladies longing for romance, or dutiful mothers struggling to care for families, three veteran Korean mime actresses of the first generation escort the audience into women’s inner contemplations with consummate bodily skills and life experiences. Which makes it clear to all that, even without verbal language, physical theatre can touch the very core of the audience’s hearts all the same.
