"I wish I were a girl again, half-savage and hardy, and free...With the clean grass under me, and the wind on my cheek. And no I could ever be dreary and bewildered again."—Emily Brontë, Wuthering Heights
i'm just a girl is a three-act dance drama that traces the journey of three girls from their carefree youth to the threshold of adolescence. This coming-of-age narrative will awaken the inner child that has been gradually buried under the passage of time, and reclaim the innocence and wildness that have been forgotten in the process of growing up.
Through the language of their bodies, the dancers retrieve forgotten sensations in the rhythm of their movements.
They learn and they shed; they are taught and they question.
Beyond textbooks and frameworks, they shed the expectations imposed by society. In the struggle to break free and look back, they embrace only their most sincere and complete selves.
We sincerely invite you to join us on this journey of self-exploration, which is both joyful and poignant, as we search for our own light.
Re-examine what it means to you to 'be a girl.'
