NEW WORLD DEV "BOHEMIAN COLLECTION"
Presents one of the coolest communities in the world Witness the remarkable transformation of Kowloon City
Planning a cultural and lifestyle guided tour, MUSE WALK, to explore the historic sites and unique shops in the district
Kowloon City, which was awarded one of the "Coolest Neighbourhoods in the World 2024" by Time Out, has a unique historical and cultural background, creating a distinct humanistic atmosphere in the community. The "Song Tai Site" used to be a place where literati gathered and exchanged ideas, and today, this legacy is carried on by prestigious schools within the 41 Primary School Network, enveloping the area in a scholarly aura. Kowloon City has transformed into a small community that now houses a diverse range of culinary delights and trendy cafes.
NEW WORLD DEV, with its passion for history and pursuit of forward-thinking, shares the spirit of Kowloon City in embracing innovative thinking while respecting its cultural past, as well as its rich cultural heritage and unique community character. With the opening of the Shung Tak Wai MTR station, the world-class Kai Tak Sports Park, and the completion of new lifestyle and leisure experiences in the surrounding area, trendy and unique small businesses, as well as distinctive dining options, have been drawn to the district, marking another wave of transformation for Kowloon City. "BOHEMIAN COLLECTION", a brand-new series of stylish residential projects by NEW WORLD DEV, will be making its debut in Kowloon City, making this district the ideal community for the new generation of Bohemians who value spiritual freedom, lifestyle enjoyment, and cultural and artistic pursuits.
Explore the Unique Cultural Charm of Kowloon City
Bohemian individuals are urban elites who reject the mundane and conventional. They are enthusiasts of history and culture, always in search of lifestyle tastes. To cater to this group of urban elites and the general public, NEW WORLD DEV has collaborated with the cultural enterprise "Lively Hong Kong" to organize a cultural and lifestyle guided tour, MUSE WALK, which will be open to the public free of charge in early September. This tour will offer a close-up view of Kowloon City's transformation and allow participants to experience the charm of this stylish community, comparable to Seoul's Seongsu-dong and Perth's Northbridge in Australia.
Wander through Historic Sites and Specialty Shops with Expert Guidance to Discover the Allures of Kowloon City
The guided tour, led by a professional interpreter, will take participants on a journey through the streets and alleys of Kowloon City. They will visit the renowned historical site, Kowloon Walled City Park, to explore the park's historic relics, followed by stops at unique shops in the district, including "Kwai Yiu Chai Ho Kee Lung", a witness to the Chaozhou dining culture in Kowloon City, the century-old herbal tea shop "Gung Wo Tong", "Ming Heung Tea Company", a must-have for souvenirs in the 1970s and 1980s, and "Wai Wo Tong Cafe", a transformed traditional pharmacy that is now a trendy cafe. Below are introductions to some of the tour's highlights:
Kowloon Walled City Park
The Hong Kong film "The Walled City", set in Kowloon Walled City, took the world by storm. The original site of the Walled City has been transformed into Kowloon Walled City Park, which is designed in the style of a Jiangnan garden, embodying the beauty of traditional Chinese landscaping with its stacked hills and flowing waters, creating an elegant and tranquil ambiance.
Kwai Yiu Chai Ho Kee Lung
The technique of making Chaozhou sugar pastries and sugar towers was inscribed on the Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage List in 2014. Kwai Yiu Chai Ho Kee Lung, a Chaozhou pastry shop with a 75-year history, is a representative of Chaozhou pastries and culture. The shop offers a variety of Chaozhou treats, including sugar pastries, olive-shaped steamed cakes, peach glutinous rice cakes, and fermented rice cakes, along with seasonal specialties, totaling over a hundred options, showcasing the exquisite nature of Chaozhou culinary culture.
Ming Heung Tea Company
Established in 1963, Ming Heung Tea Company moved to its current location in Kowloon City in 1973 and has since maintained the traditional setup of a tea shop with a processing factory at the back. It is one of the few remaining traditional tea shops in Hong Kong that still processes tea leaves in-house. Their signature charcoal-roasted Tie Guan Yin tea has a uniquely sweet and mellow flavor, and it was a popular choice for souvenirs during the 1970s and 1980s when the old Kai Tak Airport was still in operation.
Gung Wo Tong
Founded in 1904, Gung Wo Tong has stood for over a century, making it one of Hong Kong's oldest herbal tea shops. Their tortoise jelly is well-known, and they also offer a variety of herbal teas, such as jujube tea and chrysanthemum tea.
Nam Kok
Nam Kok Cafe, located in a pre-war Tong Lau (walk-up building), has a history of over 80 years. After revitalization, it preserved the perforated metal and wooden structures from its predecessor, a hardware store called "Yee Shun Wing", along with the red-letter calligraphy signboard, creating a blend of old and new.
Wai Wo Tong Cafe
Wai Wo Tong Cafe is a trendy cafe that was revitalized from an 80-year-old traditional Chinese medicine shop called "Wai Wo Tong Ginseng and Herbs". The layout of the original medicine shop has been retained, and elements such as the hundred-drawer cabinet, gold-lacquered plaque, old iron gate, louvered windows, and wooden benches have been reused to recreate the space, transforming the old pharmacy into a stylish cafe.
In addition to the guided tour stops, there are also many other places nearby where you can experience the transformation and charm of the district:
Kai Tak Sports Park
Kai Tak Sports Park is Hong Kong's largest integrated sports and entertainment landmark, offering a variety of facilities, including sports venues, recreational spaces, park amenities, retail shops, and dining options. It also regularly hosts major and international-level sports and entertainment events, catering to both sports enthusiasts and those who appreciate a refined lifestyle.
Shung Tak Wai MTR Station
Since the full opening of the Tuen Ma Line in 2021, transportation in Kowloon City has become even more convenient. During the construction of the Shung Tak Wai Station between 2012 and 2015, MTR CORPORATION discovered over 400 archaeological artifacts dating from the Song and Yuan dynasties. Many of these excavated artifacts are currently on display at the Shung Tak Wai MTR Station, bearing witness to the long history of Kowloon City.
